Construction Prompts Traffic Shift on SR 68 in Polk County

TDOT Region 2

TDOT Region 2 says contract crews will shift traffic to the newly constructed SR-68 North bridge, which could prompt delays in Polk County.

The traffic shift will remain for the rest of the project beginning Friday, February 6, 2026.

This comes as part of the SR 68 bridge replacements project over SR 40 in Ducktown.

During this final phase of construction, they say:

  • The SR 68 South bridge will close for replacement.
  • All traffic will use the newly constructed SR 68 North bridge, which will temporarily carry two-way traffic while crews build the new SR 68 South bridge.
  • The SR 68/SR 40 West interchange will close. All interchange traffic will be routed through the SR 68/SR 40 East interchange.
  • temporary crossover will create a three-way stop where the ramp meets SR 68, ensuring safe movement through the work zone.

This traffic pattern will be similar to the current setup, but with the bridge and interchange locations switched, according to TDOT Region 2.

This work is weather-dependent.

They encourage drivers to plan ahead, expect delays and use caution while traveling through the work zone.
