BRADLEY COUNTY — The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) is warning locals about a circulating scam that could affect individuals.

The BCSO says they have received an increase in reports of scam calls where the caller is posing as a current BCSO employee.

In the calls, the scammer claims the person has missed jury duty or owes fines and demands immediate payment.

They say the scammers are spoofing their phone number.

Spoofing means the caller falsifies the number that appears on your caller ID to make it look like the call is coming from the Sheriff’s Office, even though it is not, according to the BCSO.

They say the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office will NOT call you demanding payment, fines, or personal information over the phone.

If you receive a call like this they ask:

• Hang up immediately
• Do not provide personal or financial information
• Call our non-emergency number at 423-728-7300 to verify the call
