Whitfield Co. Sheriff’s Office Receives “Adventure Bags” to Support Children in Crisis
WHITFIELD COUNTY — The Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) says they have been the recipient of “adventure bags” that are able to help children in crisis.
They say this is a resource designed to bring comfort and reassurance to children who may be displaced or experiencing crisis situations.
The Adventure Bags are assembled for boys and girls of all age groups up to 18-years-old.
Each bag contains age-appropriate comfort items, including a blanket, book, notebook, sketchpad, a toy or stuffed animal and a small bag of toiletries, the WCSO says.
They say these items may seem simple, but in moments of uncertainty, fear, or trauma, they can make a powerful difference in helping a child feel safe and supported.
“Children involved in emergency or high-stress situations, such as domestic disturbances, accidents, or displacement from their homes, often experience confusion and anxiety. Maintaining calm, comfort, and a sense of normalcy during these moments is critical. Familiar items, creative outlets, and soft comforts can help reduce fear, encourage emotional expression, and provide reassurance when a child needs it most.”
