BRADLEY COUNTY — The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) is warning locals about a scam involving social media groups.

The scam is about local social media groups involving an individual claiming to need assistance and later stating that their driver’s license was “accidentally” sent to the Good Samaritan’s home address, the BCSO says.

They share some tips to be aware of:

• Do not allow strangers to use your home address for mail or identification purposes.
• Claims that a driver’s license was “accidentally” mailed to your address are a red flag.
• Sharing your home address with unknown individuals online can create safety risks.
• If something feels suspicious, trust your instincts.
They say scammers sometimes use sympathy-based stories to obtain personal information, confirm valid addresses, or create future opportunities for fraud or identity-related crimes.
The BCSO says if  you receive unexpected mail in someone else’s name do not deliver it directly to the individual and mark it “Return to Sender – Not at This Address” and place it back in your mailbox or take it to the post office.
If you feel threatened or believe someone may show up at your home, call our non-emergency number 423-728-7311 immediately, BCSO says. If you believe you have been targeted by a scam, please call our non-emergency number 423-728-7311 to report it.
