Gas prices rise by over 50 cents in Chattanooga area over past week
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- In response to that ongoing conflict in Iran, drivers have noticed that gas prices have continued to go up.
GasBuddy is reporting that the average price of gas in the Chattanooga area have risen by 52 cents.
The average gas price in Chattanooga sits right at three dollars a gallon.
The cheapest prices are around $2.79, while some of the highest prices, including right here on South Broad Street, are sitting at $3.29.
Unfortunately, as the Strait of Hormuz remains closed and military engagements continue, the rise of gas prices is likely not over.
GasBuddy spokesman Patrick De Haan said, “Prices could continue to increase by five to ten cents by later today. That could happen again tomorrow and Wednesday. All of this could add up to the national average rising to $3.75 or even $3.95, again depending on how the situation unfolds.”
De Haan says that there is a slight glimmer of hope as the average oil price has receded from their peak over the weekend.
