Remembering the Blizzard of ’93: Office of Emergency Management says they’re prepared

It’s been thirty-three years since the Blizzard of 1993 ravaged the southeast.

Local officials say that funding for emergency agencies has greatly increased since then.

Communication between agencies has also been prioritized, including with the National Weather Service.

The Hamilton County government now has a way to directly communicate with the public through its Hamilton Ready program.

Amy Maxwell, Public Relations Manager, HCOEM says “That was something that I will never forget. It was a trying time for sure and we hope that if we do have any kind of severe weather event like this again, I am fully convinced that we have the resources now that can get our Hamilton county back to a sense of normalcy.”
