Structure burns to ground on Massengale Hollow Road

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A barn/cabin burned to the ground following a fire on March 18, 2026 on the 6300 block of Massengale Hollow Road.

At 8:30 pm, a motorist called 911 reporting a large fire coming from the landfill, however, the fire was actually coming from Massengale Hollow Road the Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security said.

Firefighters reported a cabin and barn fire that was inaccessible with fire apparatus upon arrival.

Chief Mark Hutchings, Highway 58 VFD, arrived on the scene and reported to dispatch this fire can only be accessed by foot and the structures sit way back in the woods.

They say by 8:36 p.m., Chief Hutchings reported the fire was spreading to the nearby woods creating a very large woods fire.

At 9:30 p.m., Chief Hutchings confirmed the cabin and barn had completely burned to the ground and an acre of land is on fire.

They say TN Forestry dug fire breaks to contain the woods fire to the 1 acre while other fire personnel worked on extinguishing the two structures.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.
