Hiker rescued after falling off Signal Point trail

SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, Tenn. (WDEF) – After speaking with the Signal Mountain Police Department, they have confirmed that the male hiker has passed away.

They say he was an active member of the Air Force.

As of right now, they are not releasing the identity of the gentleman, as family are still being notified.

SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, Tenn. (WDEF) – Saturday morning, several agencies responded to Signal Point Trail on Signal Mountain due to a hiker who had fallen off the bluff.

According to the Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management, two male hikers from Georgia started walking down Signal Point trail at 10:45 am.

By 11:00 am one of the hikers called a 9-1-1, reporting that his friend had fallen off the trail. 

Signal Mountain Fire, Waldens Ridge Emergency Service (WRES), and HCEMS hiked down 1/4 mile down Signal Point Trail to set up a rope system and repelled down 200 feet to the injured hiker.

At 12:15 pm, rescue personnel assessed the hiker’s injuries and packaged him and started the rope system haul up the mountain.
