Floyd County Historic Courthouse catches fire, employees evacuated

FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. — The Floyd County Historic Courthouse was evacuated after a fire was discovered in the building around 2:20 p.m. on March 23, 2026.

They say all employees inside were safely evacuated, according to Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord.

Crews with the Rome-Floyd County Fire Department are currently on scene working to contain the blaze.

Roads in the downtown area are blocked and police are evacuating portions of Broad Street.

The courthouse was undergoing renovations at the time of the fire, according to Floyd County.

The cause remains unknown and is under investigation.
