One person shot in Hamilton County apartment complex
It happened inside a second floor apartment at the Standifer Place apartment complex.
According to investigators, Shaun Cleaver, 28, was shot multiple times after he entered the wrong apartment. Deputies have confirmed that Cleaver is a resident at the apartment complex but have yet to determine how and why he entered the wrong apartment.
A next door neighbor identified as Taz Batts, told News 12 she was woken up by a loud noise shortly after 2 A.M.
"It was like a pow! Pow! Pow! kind of shots. It was back-to-back gunshots," Batts said.
She told reporters she first thought the noise was fireworks, but soon realized someone was shot when she saw him being placed into an ambulance.
Shortly after the shooting, Batts said she heard several voices outside her apartment.
"It was just a lot of male voices outside my door like right after the incident so I couldn’t hear what they were saying. I was trying to figure out what was going on," Batts said.
Cleaver is now listed in serious condition at a local hospital.
Deputies told News 12 that calls to the Standifer Place apartment complex are very rare. Even Batts says it’s uncommon to see law enforcement vehicles in the parking lot.
"I’ve been here for more than year and it’s pretty quiet. So for something like this to happen was very unexpected. That’s why I wasn’t even sure it was gun shots. I was hoping for the best," Batts said.
