Riverview Camp for Girls Offers Free Week for First-Time Camper

MENTONE, Ala. — As families plan for summer, one local camp is giving a first-time camper the chance to experience it at no cost while highlighting the lasting benefits of the camp experience.

Riverview Camp for Girls owner and director Susan Hooks recently spoke with WDEF Channel 12 about how camp helps children build confidence and independence.

“Camp gives children the opportunity to discover who they are outside of their everyday environment,” Hooks said.

Located in Mentone, Riverview Camp for Girls offers a traditional summer camp experience centered around outdoor activities, creativity, and community.

Hooks says time away from home allows children to grow in ways that are difficult to replicate elsewhere.

“At camp, they begin to realize what they’re capable of,” she said.

Many parents report increased confidence and independence in their children after attending camp.

Riverview Camp for Girls is currently offering a free week of summer camp for a first-time camper.

Families can enter the giveaway by scanning the provided QR code. The winner will be announced on May 4.

Hooks says camp is about more than just activities.

“It’s about who they become while they’re there,” she said.
