1,170 tires recycled through local collection effort

City of Athens

ATHENS — The City of Athens has announced the successful recycling of 1,170 tires through a recent community collection effort.

They say this initiative was made possible through the support of their partners, including McMinn County, Meadow Branch Landfill, the McMinn County Sheriff’s Department, and Liberty Tire Recycling.

Recycling tires plays a critical role in protecting water quality and reducing environmental pollution.

They say when improperly disposed of, tires can collect water, attract pests, and release harmful substances into the soil and waterways.

By recycling tires in our local environment, this can help prevent contamination, reduce landfill strain, and support sustainable reuse in construction and infrastructure projects.
