Two arrested on drug charges following traffic safety checkpoint
SCOTTSBORO — Two men have been arrested on drug charges following a traffic safety checkpoint in Scottsboro.
According to the Scottsboro Police Department (SPD), officers made contact with a passenger car, occupied by two individuals.
The individuals were identified as Adrian Labron Bentley and Christopher James Winchester both 37-years-old and of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
They say officers detected the odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle, which led to a probable cause search.
During the search, officers located approximately 14.83 ounces of marijuana packaged in multiple bags throughout the vehicle, along with digital scales and packaging materials commonly associated with the distribution of narcotics, according to the SPD.
Officers also recovered $2,873 in suspected narcotics related cash. They say additionally, prescription medications were located that were not prescribed to either occupant of the vehicle.
As a result, Adrian Bentley was charged with the following:
Possession of Marijuana 1st Degree
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Illegal Possession of Prescription Drugs
Christopher Winchester was charged with the following:
Possession of Marijuana 1st
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Both subjects were transported to the Scottsboro City Jail for processing before being transferred to the Jackson County Jail without incident.
