Town of Signal Mountain warns of impersonation scam
The Town of Signal Mountain is warning individuals of a circulating impersonation scam.
They say the scam targets individuals who have recently applied for property variances or building permits.
They say the scammers review the public Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) agendas and application records, then email applicants fake invoices that appear official.
These messages often use the names of local planning staff and request urgent payment for “outstanding fees.”
Payments are typically requested through wire transfers or digital payment apps.
The Town of Signal Mountain asks individuals to not click links, respond, or send payment.
If you receive a suspicious email related to a zoning or permit application, contact the Planning Department directly using official town contact information to verify.
