UTC to host active violence response training
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC), Department of Public Safety (UTCDPS) and UTC Police Department (UTCPD) will conduct an Active Violence Response Training on May 28-29, 2026.
As part of the training, participants will conduct scenario-based exercises involving simulated active violence incidents at the following locations:
-May 28, 2026: Doctor’s Office Building (744 McCallie Avenue)
-May 29, 2026: UTC Library (600 Douglas Street) and Maclellan Gymnasium (601 Vine Street)
These buildings and the surrounding areas will be closed to non-participants during the exercises.
They say individuals in the area may notice an increased presence of police and first responders and hear noises associated with the training scenarios.
No action is required by members of the UTC or Chattanooga communities.
“Developed by UTCDPS and UTCPD personnel and approved by the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (P.O.S.T.) for training credit, this course provides law enforcement officers with advanced tactics and techniques for responding to critical incidents.”
