(press release) — East Hamilton High School is proud to announce the appointment of Mariah Cummings as the new Head Girls Basketball Coach for the Lady Canes. A former standout athlete and the all-time leading scorer at Silverdale Baptist Academy, Cummings went on to play Division I basketball on a full scholarship at Eastern Kentucky University. She brings nine years of coaching experience and a proven track record of program elevation to “Hurricane Hill.”
In addition to her basketball acumen, Coach Cummings brings extensive experience in sports communications, marketing, and athletic leadership, including seven years as a head coach. Her holistic coaching philosophy seamlessly blends student-athlete development, mentorship, and leadership with her professional background in public relations, graphic design, photography, and media relations.
“Coach Cummings is a dedicated, hands-on leader driven to build high-performing programs and a strong brand presence,” said Athletic Director Keitha Booker. “She expertly connects her marketing and communications expertise with athletic excellence, making her a master at cross-functional collaboration within the school community.”
East Hamilton Principal Brent Eller echoed excitement for the program’s future under her leadership.
“Coach Cummings brings a unique background rooted in results that will build upon the rich history of basketball at East Hamilton,” said Eller. “Our hiring process is incredibly thorough because we look for leaders who will elevate our school’s reputation and climate. Coach Cummings will assume her coaching duties effective immediately.
“I haven’t been this excited to coach in a long time,” Coach Cummings stated. “I truly believe everything happens for a reason, and this timing feels perfect. I love basketball, but I love mentoring young women even more. My goal is to develop leaders on and off the court and prepare them for the next level in life. They will leave my program knowing they were loved, cared for, prayed over, and pushed to reach their fullest potential.”
