Alleged agreement via Craigslist lead to knife attack
It reportedly happened Monday morning in the 7100 block of Garfield Road.
Steven Roddy, 35, of Chattanooga was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated robbery after authorities say he attacked and robbed a man at knife point.
According to Hamilton County Sheriff deputies, Roddy and the alleged victim met on Craigslist. They mutually agreed to have sex with each other.
The 50-year old male victim told deputies he picked up Roddy but started having a "bad feeling" about him so he turned around and tried to drop him back off.
At some point, Roddy reportedly demanded $20. But when the 50-year old refused, he said Roddy threatened him with a knife.
The victim told deputies that Roddy attempted to stab him but missed when he jumped out the vehicle with his cell phone to call 911.
According to the arrest affidavit, Roddy took the man’s radar detector before getting out the vehicle and coming toward his alleged victim.
The man told police he was able to elude Roddy and get back into his vehicle and lock the doors.
Roddy was eventually arrested without incident.
His bond was set at $40,000.
According to a News 12 background check, Roddy is no stranger to trouble.
He’s been convicted three times for DUI. Two of the convictions were within the same year.
In 2010, Roddy was convicted of unauthorized joy riding. That same year he was convicted in criminal court on the charge of being a habitual traffic offender.
