U.S. fighter jet fired on tanker allegedly violating blockade, Central Command says
A U.S. fighter jet fired on an empty tanker in the Gulf of Oman on Monday that allegedly violated the blockade against Iran by trying to sail to an Iranian port, U.S. Central Command said.
An F/A-18 Super Hornet from the USS Abraham Lincoln fired a precision munition into the engineering and steering spaces of the Palau-flagged M/T Marivex, Central Command said in a statement.
The incident happened after the Marivex’s crew failed to comply with directions from U.S. forces, Central Command said.
“Marivex is no longer sailing to Iran,” Central Command said.
Earlier, the Forward Seaman’s Union of India told CBS News the crew were uninjured and evacuating from the ship.
