Major contraband seized from Georgia State Prison following investigation
MURPHY COUNTY — A large amount of contraband has been seized from a Georgia State Prison following an investigation, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
They say on June 1, 2026, investigators with the CCSO and Union County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the residence of Amanda King.
During the operation, a trafficking amount of methamphetamine was seized, and two individuals were arrested.
As the investigation continued, Cherokee County Narcotics Detectives discovered that King had been using jail phone calls to communicate with a male identified as 34-year-old Rudy Cameron Lee, according to the CCSO.
Investigators determined that Lee was currently incarcerated and serving a sentence for Voluntary Manslaughter.
Upon learning that Lee was allegedly using a cell phone while incarcerated, Cherokee County investigators contacted the Union County Sheriff’s Office for assistance.
They say Union County investigators quickly coordinated with Georgia Department of Corrections investigators, who conducted a search of Lee’s prison cell.
The search resulted in the seizure of:
• 7 cellular phones
• 1 mobile hotspot device
• 948 grams of methamphetamine
• 2,210 grams of marijuana
• 3,245 grams of tobacco
• 1 digital scale
• Earbuds
• Allen keys
• Charging cables and accessories
Lee’s projected release date on his current sentence is estimated to be around 2038.
Currently, it is unknown what additional charges may result from the contraband discovered in his prison cell.
