37-year-old arrested in identity theft investigation
The Scottsboro Police Department (SPD) has arrested 37-year-old Rachel Nicole Burton following an investigation into the unauthorized use of a citizen’s credit card information.
On June 12, 2026, officers responded to a report of fraudulent activity involving a credit card belonging to a Scottsboro resident. Officers determined that the victim had left his credit card with the cashier of the business on June 6, while they went out and pumped fuel.
They say through the review of surveillance footage and evidence gathered during the investigation, officers developed information indicating that Burton, an employee of the business, had obtained the victim’s credit card information without permission.
Officers further determined that the card information was used on June 8 to make multiple unauthorized purchases.
As a result of the investigation, Burton was arrested and charged with the following:
Identity Theft
Fraudulent Use of a Credit/Debit Card (x3)
Theft of Property 4th Degree (x3)
