DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office warns about scam asking for help getting individuals out of jail

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office is warning individuals that scammers are currently calling and falsely claiming that a family member is in jail and offering to ‘help’ get them released or enrolled in a program.

Thy say the caller will then place the individual on hold and a person posing as Sheriff Nick Welden will come on the line requesting money or payment.

Please be aware: THIS IS A SCAM. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office will never request money over the phone for any reason whatsoever.

They ask if you receive a call like this, do not provide any personal information or payment details, just hang up the phone.
