Former Cumberland County High School cheer coach indicted after misappropriating funds
An investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office has resulted in the indictment of Donna Mifflin, the former Cumberland County High School Cheer Team coach.
Investigators determined that Mifflin misappropriated at least $5,155.03 in cheer funds between April 2024 and October 2024, when her coaching duties were suspended, according to the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury.
They say the funds came from purchases made for cheer gear and spirit wear and fundraising collections.
Mifflin collected payments from parents through checks made payable to the school, cash, and her personal Venmo account, but failed to deposit all funds.
Investigators found that she overstated the cost of cheer gear and spirit wear, collected more money than needed, and kept a portion of the funds.
They say she also failed to deposit the total amount of money collected from a fundraiser and did not remit all the funds she received through her personal Venmo account.
The investigation also found that Mifflin made at least $594.43 in cheer gear purchases for a family member, who was also a cheerleader, with no discernible payments for the items.
Investigators also identified additional questionable purchases totaling at least $524.81 for apparel for coaches and assistant coaches using cheer funds without clear communication or approval from parents.
Based upon this investigation, in June 2026, the Cumberland County Grand Jury indicted Donna Mifflin on one count of theft over $2,500.
