A man is in custody after firing a weapon out of a vehicle following an altercation on June 30, 2026.

The Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) says at around 08:30 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a call regarding a domestic dispute occurring in a vehicle by one of the vehicle’s occupants.

They say the caller stated that a Benjamin Henderson was driving, and after an altercation with the caller, he began firing a weapon out of the car in the presence of two juveniles.

After the incident, deputies were able to locate Benjamin inside the residence at 507 School Street inside the city limits of Dalton.

Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies obtained a search warrant of the residence and an arrest warrant for Benjamin.

The WCSO says despite numerous commands by law enforcement to exit the home, Benjamin initially refused to comply with any lawful orders.

They say because of the nature of the original call, and evidence that suggested that Benjamin was still armed with a firearm, the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team SRT was activated.

After SRT’s arrival, at approximately 11:50 p.m., Benjamin exited the residence without any further incident and was placed into custody.

Upon arriving at the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility, Henderson was served with a warrant for Cruelty to Children in the 1st degree, Discharging a Firearm on or Near a Roadway, Aggravated Assault, Criminal Damage to Property, Possession of a Knife or Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Reckless Conduct.

This case is currently under investigation.
