McKamey Animal Center holds Empty the Shelters event
CHATTANOOGA, TN.- If you have been looking to adopt an animal, look no further, as Mckamey is putting on their biggest event yet.
“All of our kittens and our puppies are gonna be $70 and then all of our adult animals, adult cats and our adult dogs are gonna be free for the public to adopt.” says Renee Shattuck, Lifesaving pathway manager.
McKamey is partnering with the Bissell Pet Foundation this month, as they put on their Empty the Shelters event. It is happening from July 5th to the 26th. The adult animals are free for adoption, and you might be wondering why that is.
The longer that they sit here it’s not so great for their mental health. Just getting them out for a slumber party is great. That’s where you just take them for a few days and then you bring them back or you would adopt.” says Renee Shattuck, Lifesaving pathway manager.
McKamey’s goal is getting as many animals adopted as possible. They also understand that some people may face some barriers when looking to adopt and events like this are to help push past those.
“Getting them out into a home is our goal and if that’s a barrier that is stopping someone from adopting whether it’s price you know we also offer like low cost vaccine clinics and things like that and we just want to remove those barriers so we can get as many adopted out as we can.” says Renee Shattuck, Lifesaving pathway manager.
Even though it is still early in the month, they have already had many adoptions and the public is showing their support.
“I wanna say we’ve already done 10+ adoptions today. We’ve been open since 11 since it’s Sunday, but the public has been coming in to answer the call.” says Renee Shattuck.
Events like this aren’t just helping to get animals adopted but it also allows McKamey to help more animals on the street.
“It’s just to clear the shelter so we can continue helping the public as more are coming in. It’s just kind of a revolving door if you will but the sooner we get these guys home the more we can help on this end so it’s kinda just ever turning.” says Renee Shattuck.
So, if you have been thinking of adopting or fostering now is your chance. Whether you’re looking for a hiking buddy or a couch companion, there’s a pet waiting to meet you.
