CHATTANOOGA, TN.- In honor of America’s 250th anniversary, TVA celebrated by giving exclusive tours of Raccoon Mountain Dam.
“What I hope people get out of this is an appreciation for TBA and Rocky Mountains pump storage plant as well as all of our generating assets. We have a very diverse portfolio across the entire Tennessee valley and our raccoon Mountain pump Storage facility is one of the key pieces to our energy portfolio.” says Ryan Fruth, manager of maintenance of Raccoon Mountain.
The tours take you 100 feet below the water so you get a chance to see how everything works. This tour’s mission is to make people realize how important TVA is to the people of Chattanooga.
“It’s been a pleasure to open this up to the public today on the 250th anniversary of our nation and we just completed a really fun tour and what I hope people get out of it as an appreciation for TVA and support of our mission and realizing that we need to build more power for the valley and the benefit of the people of valid.” says Ryan Fruth, manager of maintenance of Raccoon Mountain.
Raccoon Mountain is TVA’s largest hydroelectric facility, representing decades of engineering innovation. And many people who were selected for this tour travel from all over to come and see what they had to offer.
“It’s really interesting how I learn how they pump water back up to the lake and learning about the full capacity of it was pretty amazing.” says Haden Hodler, tour participant.
Haden and his mom traveled in from Knoxville to take the tour, and he cant want to go back home to tell his friends about what he has learned. You can register online to take a tour of the dam, but spots are limited.
