Hamilton County to offer K-12 Quantum Curriculum
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) — Quantum Computing has moved from science fiction to become a very real industry.
Chattanooga is currently at the forefront developing this new technology.
To make sure students are ready for this new industry, the Chattanooga Quantum Collaborative announced the launch of TN QuantumWorks, a new K-12 curriculum to be rolled out here in Hamilton County as part of a pilot program.
Sheila Boyington, President of ThinkingMedia said at the announcement event, “We are going to start introducing kids from kindergarten to high school that they’ll learn what quantum computing is, why it’s important, how it will change industries, and how they can become part of an emerging workforce. That’s the important part.”
Quantum computers are millions of times more powerful than traditional computers like your phone or laptop.
Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp told us, “…It’s much more important for our young people to have pathways to thrive and we’re building a ‘first of its kind’ career technical school downtown called Franklin Roberts. It’s going to be an energy and quantum industries pathway with EPB. This curriculum will be taught there.”
