East Ridge Picks New Contractor for Camp Jordan Parkway
That’s after changing contractors during a meeting Tuesday morning.
The council has run into a number of technical problems as it works to create a major shopping area around the new Bass Pro shop.
East Ridge leaders are excited about the development around exit one—led by Bass Pro Shop, which will be opening next spring.
The goal is to add a number of other businesses…and create a major shopping area.
The city has almost finished preparing the land and moving the Camp Jordan fire station.
Right now, that work has forced a detour to the back entrance.
But back at city hall, the council got some new information and picked a new contractor, after clearing up ownership of Brown construction company.
MAYOR BRENT LAMBERT, EAST RIDGE "We ended up changing ..changing the direction in terms of which bid we accepted. "
Lambert says the council saved 125-thousand dollars by signing with Brown construction.
Council found that it was a member of the brown family who was involved in moving the fire station, which City Attorney Hal North said "left a bad taste in the mouth."
MAYOR LAMBERT "We clarified that today and accepted the low bid."
As for the new roads, Hamilton county has provided half a million dollars.
MAYOR BRENT LAMBERT "Most of the money ..or about half of the money actually will come out of state street …it’s gas tax money that’s returned to the city every year."
Currently, the main road into Camp Jordan is closed as part of the renovation.
But the mayor says visitors will like the improved interchange when its done sometime next year.
MAYOR LAMBERT "That’s going to be an exit one modification ….of how you actually enter and exit the interstate right there at exit one..and once that gets finished, people will see a night and day difference."
A T-DOT representative says plans to take part in the new on-ramp at exit one are still being developed.
