Day Two of Volkswagen and UAW Hearing
One witness was a Volkswagen maintenance worker – also known as a skilled team member.
And the other witness was a production worker.
The union has been trying to prove the maintenance team consists of highly trained, highly specialized workers who deserve separate union representation than their less skilled production team counterparts.
The maintenance team witness explained his job duties which include repairing robots and other machinery.
He described all the training his work required.
The production team witness had a very different testimony.
She said her job consisted of simply loading parts into a robot or on a conveyor belt.
She said she had no prior experience or education to do her job, having worked at various customer service jobs before hand.
The hearing finished with both sides giving their closing statements.
The hearing officer decided on election dates of November 12th, 13th, 19th and 20th should the petition pass.
She also set guidelines on how many observers and representatives from both sides can be present at the election.
A director at the National Labor Relations Board will review the transcripts and make a decision in the next few days.
No one at the hearing would give a comment.
