Vols Would Love to Duplicate Performance Against Kentucky For the Rest of the Year
The Vols got their record back to .500 following their impressive 52-21 win over Kentucky. Now they can get their SEC record back to the .500 mark with a win this weekend against division rival South Carolina.
If you were to ask Vols coach Butch Jones, he would definitely take his teams performance against Kentucky and use it for the rest of the season.
Said Jones-"I thought all three phases really, really complimented each other. We were able to generate explosive plays in a number of areas. We were able to control the field position."
Quarterback Josh Dobbs continues to shine, especially running the football. He had a nice 28-yard touchdown run against Kentucky.
Said Jones-"He’s able to make individuals miss. He understands how to set them up. I think he runs hard. I think he runs strong. I think a lot of it is instincts, and he has done a real good job with that."
While Tennessee’s quarterback has been running wild, opposing quarterbacks have been on the run against the Vols defense.
Said Jones-"We have impacted the quarterback a little bit more. I think it comes down to when (reporter) Steve brought up the play at the end positions, and then we still need to continue to get more push internally from the defensive tackle position."
Added linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin-"We’re just trying to get paid for all of our hard work. We struggled a little bit early in the season. Everyone has stayed the course. We’ve been working the same. We have the same intensity."
Now UT gets South Carolina, a team playing a with an interim coach in Shawn Elliott.
Said defensive back Cam Sutton-"They’re playing pretty well actually. Pharoh Cooper is a big part of their offense. Guy makes a lot of plays for them."
Said Jones-"Coach Spurrier is one of the best coaches to have ever coached the game of football. But I think they’ve done a great job with that. I think their players have responded. They’re playing with great effort."
