New ScamTracker from the BBB

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – The Better Business Bureau rolled out a new online tool to help consumers and businesses report and track scams.

It’s called the BBB ScamTracker.

It will be available across the U.S. and Canada.

Officials say it will help people track scams in their area.

The new tool also can search using keywords or during a certain time period.

The BBB encourages people and businesses to always report any schemes, even if they do not fall victim to them.

The ScamTracker will not only collect this data, but also share it with law enforcement.

Officials say the more information collected about a scam can help law enforcement shut it down.

“Schemes inevitably evolve, and the bogus pitch that raises red flags at first can sometimes be tweaked into a spiel that deceives and defrauds many,” said Jim Winsett, president and CEO of BBB serving Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia. “The quicker we are made aware of a problem, the faster we can react to make others aware of it.”
