Abused dog found in trash will likely lose leg
Four days after animal experts at McKamey Animal Center received X-ray result of Desiree’s damaged leg, News 12 has been informed that the she will most likely undergo a leg amputation.
According to McKamey staff, damage to the leg is too extensive and it would be much easier to amputate the leg so Desiree can begin a new and improved chapter in her life.
On Monday, November 9, a Chattanooga resident was taking out trash in the 7700 block of Nautical Way when he discovered Desiree’s foot moving inside a bag that was inside the dumpster.
When Desiree was taken to McKamey Animal Center, animal experts noticed she was severely emaciated and suffered from infected sores all over her body. They also noticed she suffered severe blunt force trauma to her shoulder and neck. But the worst injury was her shattered leg.
The day after Desiree was taken to McKamey, another dog that was named Desmond was found walking around the same residential area in similar condition.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals or PETA has announced that it will add $5000 to the reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for abusing a 1-year old pit bull named Desiree. This comes in addition to the $500 reward offered by the McKamey Animal Center.
"Someone out there abused and abandoned these dogs, dumping one of them in a garbage can for what could have been slow, agonizing and terrifying death," said PETA Senior Director Colleen O’Brien.
If found, and convicted, the culprit(s) may be among the first added to Tennessee’s new Animal Abuse Registry.
