Vols Bounce Back From Tough Losses to Earn Berth in Outback Bowl
Tennessee earned a berth in the Outback bowl after posting an 8-4 record, but their largest margin of defeat was just seven points to Oklahoma, who of course made the college football playoffs.
The Vols jumped out to a 17-0 lead over the Sooners before falling in double overtime.
That became Tennessee’s M-O.
They couldn’t hold a lead and finish off a game.
But the Vols regrouped, posting a five game winning streak to get to Tampa.
Said head coach Butch Jones,"They were gut-wrenching losses. A lot of times, particularly being in Knoxville, you can let the noises and distractions creep in. I was really proud of our players. The way they responded. And I say it every year, it’s usually the teams that can manage the natural adversities that a long football season brings about. They’re playing in great bowl games like this."
