Chattanooga mom charged with DUI with two small children in the car

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) – A mother of two young children was booked into the Hamilton County Jail early Monday morning after she reportedly drove intoxicated before putting up a fight with police.

Tamra Johnson, 30, of Chattanooga is now facing multiple criminal charges including two counts of child abuse.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by News 12, two women were nearly hit by Johnson after she had already crashed her car into another vehicle. The two women flagged down two police officer who located Johnson in the 1000 block of Orchard Knob Avenue.

According to the officers, Johnson was so drunk that she struggled to get out of the car. Johnson reportedly admitted to officers that she had been heavily drinking.

The officers quickly realized Johnson’s three-month old and 3-year old children were in the back seat.

When police attempted to take Johnson into custody, she reportedly put up a fight with officers before being subdued.

Her bond was set at $56,000.

Prior to her recent arrest, Johnson already had three pending cases in General Sessions Court. All three cases are related to illegal driving.
