MLK Day Calendar of Observances in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) This year’s Martin Luther King Jr Day celebration will look at bit different this year.

Here is your calendar:

8:30 – Noon "A Day On, Not a Day Off"

500 volunteers scheduled so far to take on a dozen service projects in the M.L. King Neighborhood, from trash cleanup, painting & daffodil planting.

Noon MLK Mural Dedication and Artist Presentation

The city & AT&T will dedicate the giant mural on the side of the AT&T building on MLK Boulevard that is a testament to the "I Have A Dream" speech.

The event at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center includes music, comments from Mayor Andy Berke & Councilman Moses Freeman, plus a presentation by muralist Meg Saligman.

3 PM – MLK Birthday Parade & March

The annual MLK Birthday Parade & March is moving from the MLK area this year to Brainerd High School (see our story explaining why)

Lineup is between the Waffle House and Ridgeview Baptist Church (parking at the church) at the intersection of North Moore Road and Brainerd Road.  The march will be from Brainerd Road to Brainerd High School.
