3 Dogs Test Positive for Rabies in Georgia Mountains
Three Fannin County dogs fought and killed a raccoon that tested positive for rabies.
Officials say the dogs were not vaccinated for the disease.
So now, the owner has to decide whether to quarantine the animals for six months or have them euthanized.
Here in Hamilton County, Health Department officials say we haven’t had an animal test positive for rabies since 2012.
Leah Sergeant with the Hamilton County Health Department says "we have a high number of animals that are vaccinated. We have clinics every year that Hamilton County puts on in conjunction with the Vet Association, where for 2 weekends, vets set up clinics at schools and churches around Hamilton County."
Health officials say the Fannin County case is a good reminder about why you should make sure your pets are vaccinated for rabies.
