UTC Softball Team Excited by Talent in 2016
Chattanooga-(WDEF) The UTC softball team has claimed the last two Southern Conference titles.
And with five seniors returning this season, the Mocs feel pretty confident about making a run for a three-peat.
The Mocs posted 35 victories last season along with a SoCon title.
And head coach Frank Reed believes those goals are doable this year too.
Said Reed-"We’re real excited. We have a lot of talent. We have as much talent as we have ever had. It is saying a lot. I hope I’m not jinxing myself by talking about that. When I say that and talk about talent, I’m talking about the back-ups."
The players aren’t shying away from high expectations either.
Said pitcher Cori Jennings-"I think we definitely do have a lot of talent this year. It could be one of the most talented teams."
Added cacther Anyssa Robles-"I think we can go really far. I think we can go further than we’ve ever gone if we push ourselves."
To go really far and make this season special, you better have plenty of pitchers.
Said Reed-"If we’re going to be the team I talked about to you earlier, we better have that depth, and I think we will. We’re bringing back Cori Jennings, who had some top 25 wins last year. Also Kailey Palazzlo who pitched well at times for us."
Offensively, the Mocs return clutch hitter Anyssa Robles. Last year, she had three walk-off winning hits in three straight games, including two in the SoCon tournament.
Jennings-"Yeah, I think we all thought she was a superhero at that point."
Robles-"It was really exciting. I don’t really remember much now because it was all such a blur. It was awesome."
