TBI to investigate officer involved shooting in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Memphis police are at the scene of a shooting involving a police officer near a church south of downtown Memphis.

Dispatchers received a call just before 3 p.m. about the shooting. Police spokeswoman Karen Rudolph said no officers were shot but referred all other questions to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating.

People who identified themselves as relatives of the person who was shot were crying and hugging near St. Andrew AME Church. Several dozen residents of the neighborhood gathered there, and more than two dozen marked and unmarked police cars lined the streets.

Yellow police tape cordoned off a large portion of the scene.
