Cleveland minister and Bradley Commissioner file lawsuit over Tennessee Marriage Law
CLEVELAND, Tenn (WDEF) – Attorney David Fowler with the Constitutional Government Defense Fund filed a lawsuit this week in Bradley County over Tennessee’s marriage laws.
The plaintiffs are Church of God minister, Rev. Guinn Green, and Bradley County Commissioner Howard Thompson.
The suit asks clarification of the laws in Tennessee after the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage (Obergefell v. Hodges).
It challenges this part of the ruling: “The state laws … are … held invalid to the extent they exclude same-sex couples from civil marriage on the same terms and condition as opposite-sex couples”
Fowler explains why the Clevelanders are going to court.
