Lunch Break Legislation
Lawmakers in Tennessee have filed legislation that would give workers the option of waiving their 30 minute lunch break.
It’s currently required by the state for anyone working more than six hours.Roger Helle with Teen Challenge, says, "I’m a faith based organization and I think you can pass a law, but I think what it really comes down to is the motive, attitude of the employer. Either the employer is going to follow it or the employer is going to find a way to get around it. It seems to me that in this area the majority of the employers are going to do the right thing and they’re going to give their employees an opportunity to have lunch."
House democrats seem to be against this legislation, while house republicans seem to be for it.
Some residents who are against the bill say having a break is important because it helps prevent workplace injuries.
We caught with one local employer in Chattanooga who’s fairly neutral on the issue.
