Russ Huesman Announces Changes to Football Staff
UTC football coach Russ Huesman announced recent changes and additions to the Mocs football coaching staff. Corners and Dimes coach Rod West has added the title of Recruiting Coordinator, while Adam Ross is the new offensive line coach and John Srofe joins the program as the Video Coordinator and Defensive Quality Control.
West is entering his second year at UTC. He takes over recruiting coordinator duties after Will Healy left to be the head coach at Austin Peay.
“Rod is going to do a great job for us as recruiting coordinator,” stated Huesman. “We have had a number of top-ranked recruiting classes over the last few years and he will lead our efforts as a staff to continue to bring top talent to Chattanooga.”
Ross replaces Chris Malone who left for Old Dominion earlier in the month. Ross spent the previous two seasons as the offensive line coach at West Alabama.
“We are excited to have Adam join our staff,” added Huesman. “He has a lot of experience coaching at this level and has strong recruiting ties to the areas we target. He is highly regarded as an offensive line coach and we are glad he is here.”
The Tigers led the Gulf South Conference in rushing in 2014, averaging nearly 230 yards per game, and were in the top 16 in the nation in fewest sacks allowed each of the last two years. He also guided Kennedy Estelle to NCAA Division II All-American honors last season.
Prior to his stint at UWA, Ross spent 11 years at Jacksonville State. There he coached the offensive line, tight ends and special teams, while also serving as the program’s recruiting coordinator. He began his career as a graduate assistant at JSU in 2002. With Ross on the staff, the Gamecocks won three Ohio Valley Conference titles.
After walking on as a player at Jacksonville State, Ross went on to earn a scholarship and start three seasons at center for the Gamecocks. He anchored an offensive line that led the Southland Conference in rushing in both 2000 and 2001. He was a two-time selection to the Southland Conference All-Academic Team.
Ross earned both is Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from Jacksonville State, graduating with honors. His undergraduate degree is in Collaborative Special Education and his Master’s is in Educational Administration.
Srofe is a 2015 graduate of Northern Kentucky. He spent last season as the Video Coordinator at Wofford. He takes over for Alex Schnitzer who left for the private sector earlier in the month.
“John has stepped right in and acclimated himself to our staff quickly,” said Huesman. “He is responsible for all of our video operations, but also be a big asset to our defensive coaches as a quality control assistant.”
