GBI charges police chief with bogus arrest scam
WHITE, Georgia (WDEF) – The GBI has arrested the police chief and one of his officers in the town of White, Georgia.
They are accusing him and the officer of running a scam on various residents by arresting them on bogus charges, reducing those charges to a citation and collecting fees from their victims.
The investigation says chief David King ran the scam for almost three and a half years.
The indictment says in one case, King arrested a woman for cruelty to children, which she did not do.
Then the officer approached her husband and said if he paid a $1,000 fine, they would not pursue the felony charges.
The charges against the police officials include false imprisonment, theft and violation of his oath of office.
