Student arrested for having BB gun at Central High

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – 16-year-old Central High School student is currently sitting in the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention facility facing one charge of possessing a weapon on school property.

According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, the 16-year-old student brought a BB gun to school, took a video with it and uploaded that video to Snapchat. After seeing the video, a few students reported it to officials, and the student was quickly taken in for questioning.

“He came and got one of the guys in class, and  he was like I’m scared as soon as the police officer walked in. Cause like he knew,” said Central High sophomore, Kordell Mitchell.

Mitchell said he was sitting next to the student in 3rd period, when the school’s resource officer came in to get him, “I think it was dumb, like I just don’t see no point. Like, it was a BB Gun. I mean you still shouldn’t bring a weapon to the school.”

Mitchell said the student didn’t seem to pose a real threat to anyone when he brought the BB Gun to school. He also claims the 16-year-old in question wasn’t being bullied, and was actually pretty popular among his peers.

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Hamilton County investigators charged a 16 year old with bringing a weapon to school at Central High.

The case began when a student at another school reported a video on a social media site.

The video was reported to the SRO at Central, who confronted the student in the video.

Officials found the BB gun (in photo) among the student’s belongings at school.

BB guns are not usually considered weapons at school.

But since it was displayed in a threatening manner (presumably in the video), Hamilton County officers made the arrest.
