Mocs Basketball Team Focused For SoCon Tournament

Chattanooga-(WDEF) The UTC men’s basketball team won the Southern Conference regular season title, and now they hope to add the SoCon tournament championship.
The Mocs also want to end a terrible March Madness cycle.
They haven’t won a single league tournament game in the last five years.
Said head coach Matt McCall-“I just think this time of year is so exciting.”
It’s exciting when you win and cut down the nets.
It’s not very exciting when you lose. Last year, the Mocs were among the favorites to win the SoCon tournament, and they were ousted in their first game against Furman.
Said forward Tre’ McLean-“Last year after that loss, I took it pretty hard. It hurt.”
Added center Justin Tuoyo-“I watched the game on ESPN3 a couple of times trying to figure out how we lost. I put it behind me. I know how that pain is. I don’t want to experience it no more.”
Reporter-“Did you figure out maybe why you lost that game?”
Tuoyo-“We just lost focus.”
The Mocs believe they have the focus this time around.
McLean-“We are only promised those 40 minutes. In order to earn another 40 minutes, you’ve got to go give it your all. It’s either win or go home, and we understand that.”
McCall-“But I need to be positive. I need to build confidence in them, and they need to understand that we are built to handle whatever is thrown our way in Asheville.”
Tuoyo-“We had a year like we had. I think everybody knows the type of team we’ve got, and what we’ve got to do to put it together this weekend.”
UTC will face either VMI or Samford on Saturday at noon in Asheville, North Carolina.
