High Powered Rifles Deadly in the Wrong hands

Last night the round that killed the 71 year old was fired from a high powered rifle, one strong enough to rip all the way through the man’s home and strike him in his bed …Rifles like that one are finding their way into the hands of people with the worst intentions ….

Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher said “This was a very powerful rifle round more powerful than the type that killed the service members on July 16th. This is as powerful of a rifle round as you will see on the streets.”

On July 16th, the terror suspect reportedly used an AK-47 during his shooting rampage, to give you an idea of how strong of a rifle we are talking about….but these are the types of guns that some young people in the community have found ways to get their hands on…..

“They are finding photos of young men in our community posting pictures of themselves with high powered rifles.”

This isn’t a problems that only Chattanooga is dealing with. Earlier this a robbery in Houston. Took just under 2 minutes, for 10 men to make off with more than 50 weapons. Many of those same weapons will be sold on the black market, I f police can’t get them off the streets first.

“An hour before this incident, my police officers took a fire arm off a criminal not far from where this happened.”

Officers took over 400 firearms off the streets last year, and Chief Fletcher pledged Chattanooga police officers will remain committed to getting these weapons off the streets.

“At least 4 times last year, people tried to kill my officers with firearms. Your Chattanooga police officers face the same violence that kills people in our community. Yes, it angers us.”
