Vols Kevin Punter Undergoes Season Ending Surgery on His Foot

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Tennessee guard Kevin Punter Jr. will undergo season-ending surgery to repair the stress fracture in his right foot that has sidelined the Volunteers’ leading scorer the last four games.

The decision effectively ends the 6-foot-2 senior’s college career.

Tennessee coach Rick Barnes announced Friday that Punter would undergo surgery Tuesday in New York, near Punter’s home in the Bronx. Punter said, “I just feel like everything happens for a reason.”

Punter is averaging 22.2 points per game, 11th among all Division I players. He finishes with the highest single-season scoring average of any Tennessee player since Allan Houston had 22.3 points per game in 1992-93.

Tennessee (13-17, 6-11 SEC) closes the regular season Saturday at home against Mississippi (19-11, 9-8).
