SOUTH PITTSBURG, TENN. -“It’s cornbread time in Tennessee!” This has been the saying in South Pittsburg, Tennessee for 20 years, and to celebrate this achievement, the National Cornbread Festival is proud to announce the headliner for this year’s event, Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder.

This 14-time Grammy Award winning artist will pull into South Pittsburg on Saturday, April 23rd to fill the streets with his “cross-cultural, genre-bending musical ideas and inspirations.” Mr. Skaggs came on the national music scene as a professional musician in 1971 with his friends Keith Whitley, Dr. Ralph Stanley and the Father of Bluegrass Music – Bill Monroe. This young talented singer was soon picked up by Epic records, and the awards began to rack up. Picking up awards like “Horizon Award, Male Vocalist of the Year, Entertainer of the Year, Duo of the Year,” Ricky Skaggs became a household name. As the world of music is apt to change, Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder have stayed the course and remained true to their roots of lively undeniable sounds of Americana. As recently as last year, this tried and true formula for Ricky Skaggs put one more award on his shelf, the distinguished Academy of Country Music’s Lifetime Achievement Award – Instrumentalist.
