Dalton man attacked by baseball bat

DALTON, Ga. (WDEF) – A Dalton man says he was attacked with a baseball bat Sunday afternoon, as he was leaving the store.

Around 2 PM Sunday afternoon, Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a fight. The caller reported a scuffle at the Walmart parking lot on East Walnut Avenue.

According to the police report, two people, 39-year-old, Gilberto Dominguez and 28-year-old James Wilson Jr. confronted one another in the parking lot.

Dominguez says he was putting his groceries away when Wilson almost hit him with his car. He says that’s when Wilson parked, grabbed a baseball bat and knife and walked toward him. But, Wilson got back in his car, circled the parking lot and came back again. Dominguez says, but this time, charged at him with the baseball bat.

Dominguez’s friend, 34-year-old, Michael Villarreal, was hit over the head, as he tried to help.

Dominguez says his daughter witnessed the whole thing and that Wilson’s three daughters did, as well.

Villarreal suffered from bumps, swelling and bruising on his head. Dominguez has a large bruise on his left rib.

Wilson had a cut on his ear, as by-standers moved and pinned him to the ground.  He was transported to the Whitfield County Detention Center after the incident occurred.

Wilson is being charge with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts cruelty to a child.

Wilson is out on a $4,000 bond. He will appear in Superior Court at a later date.
