Two people escape injury after tree fall on their house after heavy rain led to flash flooding

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF)- “With no bruises or stuff like that, I mean, I’m just glad to be alive,” said Robert Campbell who was in the house when the tree fell on it.

Stephanie Black and Robert Campbell were just watching a movie when a large tree crashed into the roof of their house on North Orchard Knob Avenue.
“All of a sudden our house started falling in,” said Black.
They escaped injury-free and were able to get out without much problem. He said it could have been so much worse.
“It was just an act of God because I’ve seen people that walk at the house which is one tree down. You can see right now, three of them fell in the house. That’s God right there looking out for us,” said Campbell.
Fire officials believe the rain-soaked soil contributed to the old tree coming down on the couple’s house.
“All I could hear was my husband saying that we need to get out of here and that’s all I could hear,” said Black.
Heavy rainfall Thursday also lead to a large tree falling in front of the Wilcox tunnel causing it to be closed.
“More than just tree damage occurred as several drivers tried driving their car through the high water and got stuck and several cars needed to be towed out.
“Just like this gentleman here thought he could drive through there are several areas in this vicinity where people thought they could drive through I’ve seen cars emerge and water over by the chicken plant and over by the car dealership,” said Bill Gautier.
The Humane Education Society also had to close due to the flooding, but according to Facebook will reopen Friday.
