CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – No injuries were reported in connection with a house fire this afternoon in East Lake.
The Chattanooga Fire Department responded to 3001 15th Avenue with four fire companies just before 3:00 p.m. The first firefighters that arrived on scene quickly made entry into the house to search for victims.
Only one person was in the home at the time of the fire and was able to escape safely.
The fire spread quickly throughout the home and broke through the roof. At that time, firefighters were ordered out of the structure for their own safety.
It took roughly an hour to get the blaze under control. The house, described as a group home for three adults, will be considered a total loss.
The fire appears to have started on the back porch, though what sparked the blaze remains undetermined.
