Hundreds of elementary students participate in Science Olympiad

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Five hundred Hamilton County elementary school students put their hard work and effort to the test today during the Science Olympiad.

The 11th annual event was held at Chattanooga State Community College.

Twenty six teams of students in the third, fourth, and fifth grades competed against each other.

The teams participated in a trajectory competition, a rocket launch, and other activities that helped solve real world problems.

Olympiad officials say the event prepares students for possible careers in math and science related fields, and the kids say they enjoy doing it.

TVA and Tennessee American Water officials helped oversee and judge the events.
